How does a transfer fee count towards PSR?

The fee is spread (amortised) over the length of the contract, capped at five years under Premier League rules. A £50m signing on a five-year deal costs £10m a year in the accounts. Wages count in full every season on top.

What are the PSR limits?

Premier League clubs can lose up to £105m over any rolling three-season window (less for seasons spent in the EFL). Spending on infrastructure, academy, community and the women's game is excluded, which is why real headroom can be better than raw accounts suggest.

Filed accounts lag the current season, and PSR excludes spending on infrastructure, academy, community and the women's game, so real headroom is usually better than the raw figure. Clubs with fewer than 3 years filed show a partial picture. This is a model for understanding how the rules work, not a compliance ruling.
