Dominik Szoboszlai has signed a new five-year contract at Liverpool, keeping him at the club until 2031.
The 25-year-old Hungarian midfielder signed from RB Leipzig in 2023 for a fee worth around £60million, and has since been a central part of the success on Merseyside.
Last season, he bagged 13 goals and provided 13 assists as the Reds failed to defend their Premier League title, eventually finishing fifth, 25 points behind champions Arsenal.
Despite still having two years left on his deal, Szoboszlai has committed for the long term, as Liverpool enter another new era under Andoni Iraola, following the departure of Arne Slot at the end of the season.
Speaking on his new deal, the No.8 said: “It’s maybe my biggest day.
“There are a couple in front of it, probably when I signed for Liverpool the first one and when I got my baby, of course. But in my football career, I can say this is in the top three.
“Very happy. [I] can’t wait to go again and again and again. I’m just happy to be here, as I said many times.”
“There’s always more to come. I’m never happy.”
“No, I’m happy with myself, but I think I can do even better. I think that’s why I’m sitting here, because that pushed me since I was a kid: that it was never enough. And I’m thinking the same now.
“I want to set the example. I want to be an example also for everyone, as much as I can.
“When I signed, I said I want to win everything. That didn’t change for a little moment either. It stayed the same: I want to win everything that is possible in this country, also let’s say the Champions League.
“I’m ready to go for it.”
Szoboszlai a key cog in Liverpool’s system
Since his move from Germany, Szoboszlai has made 147 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 28 times.
He won the Carabao Cup in his first year, before going on to lift the Premier League alongside the likes of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson.
Only the Dutch international remains Szoboszlai’s team-mate heading into the 2026-27 campaign.
Salah and Robertson have both departed, with the Egyptian weighing up his next move and the Scotland captain opting to join Tottenham in North London.
After winning the supporters’ Player of the Season award last term, Szoboszlai will be part of the leadership group keen to lead Liverpool back to the top of the table this season.
He may also find himself as the club’s new vice-captain, following Salah’s departure.
