Port Vale beat Stockport County 4-0 on Tuesday evening in a contest that the home side controlled with growing authority from the first half onwards.

Vale took the lead through Tomas Edun on 27 minutes, and Sidibeh added a second nine minutes later to settle any nerves before the interval. The visitors offered little in response, and by the time the second half began, the game had effectively been decided in terms of competitive tension.

Sidibeh struck again on 59 minutes to make it three, confirming Stockport's inability to find any foothold in the match. Jack Diamond completed the scoring on 79 minutes, adding a degree of gloss that was nevertheless thoroughly earned.

The substitutions told their own story. Vale made changes with confidence rather than necessity, cycling through their bench in the closing stages while Stockport's alterations felt reactive. Stockport's Ben Amos and Oliver Norwood entered late in proceedings with little time to alter the outcome.

Vale's defensive structure was sound throughout. Stockport registered no meaningful threat on goal and finished the evening well beaten.

The margin of four goals was a fair reflection of the distance between the two sides on the night. Vale will take considerable satisfaction from a performance that combined discipline in defence with directness in attack. For Stockport, the evening offered uncomfortable questions about their capacity to compete against teams organised and determined to press their advantage.
