AFC Wimbledon won 2-0 against Reading on Saturday, though the scoreline understates how chaotic and disjointed the afternoon became for both sides.

Wimbledon settled quickly. Marcus Browne opened the scoring in the eighth minute, giving the hosts a foothold they rarely surrendered. Matt Ritchie drew Reading level at the half-hour mark, and Jack Marriott put them ahead three minutes later, briefly shifting the balance toward the visitors. That spell of two goals in three minutes looked as though it might destabilise Wimbledon entirely.

It did not. Browne equalised early in the second half, and from that point Wimbledon grew in authority. The match then descended into a period of persistent substitutions and bookings that fractured any rhythm either team had built. Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan and Liam Fraser were both cautioned at the 66-minute mark, with Jeriel Dorsett following a minute earlier and Paudie O'Connor booked shortly after.

Browne completed his hat-trick in the 71st minute, and from there Reading had no credible answer. Zack Nelson, Andy Yiadom, Antwoine Hackford, Mathew Stevens, and Patrick Bauer all received late bookings, suggesting a match that grew increasingly fractious as Wimbledon tightened their grip.

The final score reads 2-0 on paper, which reflects only the goals that survived the full-time whistle. Wimbledon were the better side across the ninety minutes once they recovered their composure, and Browne's three-goal performance was the clearest reason why.
