Exeter City came from behind to beat Wycombe Wanderers 3-1 on Tuesday evening, a result that owed much to their second-half organisation and a Wycombe side that tired badly after the interval.

Wycombe took the lead on 22 minutes through Fred Onyedinma, who finished with composure to put the visitors in front. Exeter responded before half-time when Ewan Henderson levelled on 45 minutes, and the game was finely balanced as both teams returned for the second half.

The complexion changed immediately after the restart. Luke Leahy put Exeter ahead within a minute of the restart, and from that point Wycombe rarely threatened. Exeter controlled possession through the middle third, pressing effectively and denying Wycombe the space they had found in the first period.

Both managers turned to their benches, with substitutions arriving in quick succession from the hour mark. Akeel Higgins, Luke Harris, André Vidigal, Timur Tuterov and Taylor Allen all entered proceedings between the 60th and 81st minutes, though the flow of the game remained largely undisturbed. Exeter's third arrived on 85 minutes through S. Cox, settling any remaining uncertainty.

Late yellow cards for Jayden Wareham and Bradley Fink in stoppage time added minor ill-temper but changed nothing. Exeter deserved the points on the balance of play across 90 minutes. Wycombe, competitive in the first half, had no answer once the home side established their rhythm after the break.
