Reading won 0-2 at Stevenage on Saturday afternoon, a result that owed much to their composure in the second half and their ability to punish the home side at set pieces and transitions.

Stevenage made the brighter start and James Tyrrell Reid forced Reading's defence into an early scramble on 15 minutes, though the visitors weathered that spell without conceding. Reading grew into the contest and took the lead on 35 minutes when Paddy Lane finished with confidence to settle any nerves in the away end.

The second half brought clarity. Jeriel Dorsett doubled the advantage ten minutes after the restart, and from that point Stevenage rarely threatened with any real conviction. Steve Evans' side pressed higher, but Reading managed the space behind their line and restricted clear openings.

The closing stages were busy with changes and bookings. Finley Burns and Kadan Young were both cautioned in the 68th minute, with Matt Ritchie also picking up a yellow card in the same passage of play. D. Kemp registered two separate yellow cards, earning a sending off on 85 minutes after a first caution on 69 minutes, which left Stevenage to see out the final few minutes with ten men. Andy Yiadom was booked in stoppage time. Paudie O'Connor was also cautioned on 70 minutes.

Reading finish the afternoon with maximum points and a clean sheet, moving clear of a Stevenage side who struggled to construct anything meaningful once behind.
