Cambridge United came away from Accrington with a convincing 4-2 victory on Saturday, a result that reflected their greater composure in the second half after a chaotic opening period produced three goals before the interval.

Accrington made the brighter start and took the lead through Farrend Rawson in the 25th minute. Charlie Brown doubled the home side's advantage ten minutes later, and it appeared Stanley might carry a commanding lead into the break. Seamus Conneely's dismissal on 45 minutes, however, changed the contest entirely.

Cambridge wasted no time exploiting the numerical advantage. Two substitutes, Korey Smith and Sullay Kaikai, entered at half-time and the visitors immediately pressed forward with greater urgency.

The turnaround was swift and emphatic. L. Appéré and Shayne Lavery both scored in the 62nd minute to level the match, before Conor Grant put Cambridge ahead for the first time on 67 minutes. Appéré added a fourth on 81 minutes to extend the lead, and although Freddie Sass pulled one back for the hosts in the 88th minute, Anjola Popoola's goal moments earlier had already sealed the points.

Accrington will rue the red card above all else. They had done enough in the first half to merit a half-time lead, but surrendering a man gave Cambridge the platform they needed. United were efficient rather than spectacular, but they took their chances and never looked troubled once they had gained the advantage.
