Shrewsbury Town beat Cheltenham Town 2-1 in a League match on Saturday that shifted considerably in the final half-hour, with the visitors unable to hold the lead they had threatened to build.

Cheltenham made the brighter start. Robbie Cundy put them ahead at 17 minutes, and when L. Young added a second two minutes later, the away side looked well-placed. Shrewsbury responded before the break, pulling one back through Taylor Perry on 35 minutes, and the interval arrived with the contest genuinely open.

The second half belonged to Shrewsbury in terms of pressure, and the substitutions told their own story. Mal Benning and J. Thomas came on around the hour mark, and George Lloyd's introduction at 64 minutes added further energy to the home attack. Sam Sherring levelled shortly after, and Shrewsbury pushed on with growing confidence.

Anthony Scully and N. Freeman entered at 77 minutes as Shrewsbury sought a winner, while Cheltenham brought on Harry Ashfield to shore things up. A. Jude-Boyd gave the hosts the lead at 80 minutes, and although Ryan Broom and Cole Deeming arrived late for Cheltenham, they could not find an equaliser. Kevin Berkoe had a chance at 90 minutes to restore parity but the home defence held firm.

Shrewsbury deserved the win on the balance of second-half play. Cheltenham will reflect on a lead that slipped away before they could consolidate it.
