Coventry City beat Derby County 2-1 on Friday evening in a match that shifted dramatically in its final half-hour after a largely measured opening.

Derby had looked the more composed side through the first forty minutes. Frank Onyeka gave them the lead on twelve minutes with a composed finish, and Lewis Travis was booked at twenty-nine, a sign of the pressure Coventry were beginning to apply. Ben Brereton Díaz levelled for the hosts on thirty-eight, punishing a lapse in Derby's defensive shape just before the interval.

The second half brought a flurry of activity concentrated around the hour mark. John Eustace was dismissed on sixty-two minutes, reducing Derby to ten men and altering the contest entirely. Within a minute, Haji Wright and Ephron Mason-Clark were also booked, and Jack Rudoni picked up a yellow card at sixty-three and another at sixty-eight, leaving Derby further exposed. Patrick Agyemang was cautioned at sixty-five as the visitors struggled to maintain discipline.

Coventry pressed their numerical advantage. Oscar Fraulo came close on seventy-two before Ben Brereton Díaz forced the decisive moment on seventy-seven, his second goal of the evening settling the outcome. Late bookings for Cruz Anthony Allen and Victor Torp underlined Derby's growing frustration in the closing stages.

Coventry's win owed much to Derby's indiscipline as much as their own persistence, but they took their opportunities when the game opened up.
