Swansea City fell to a 0-1 defeat at home to Stoke City on Saturday afternoon, a result that felt earned by the visitors even if the scoreline stayed tight throughout.

The first half belonged largely to Stoke in terms of territory and intent. Sorba Thomas was booked twice before the interval, earning an early bath that left Swansea stretched and disorganised. Lamine Cissé and Ronald were also cautioned before the break, a sign of the physical friction running through the contest.

Stoke found the only goal of the afternoon through Zan Vipotnik, who struck in the 53rd minute to give the away side a deserved lead. From that point, the match opened up considerably, with both benches emptied in search of either the winning or levelling moment.

A series of substitutions reshaped the game after the hour. Million Manhoef, Milan Smit, Gustavo Nunes, Gonçalo Franco and Maksym Taloverov all entered, along with further changes from Swansea as they pressed for an equaliser. Junior Tchamadeu and Melker Widell came on for Stoke to shore up the midfield and wide areas. Liam Cullen and Jay Fulton were introduced late for the home side, but neither could fashion a clear opening.

Stoke managed the closing stages with composure and saw the game out without serious alarm. Swansea lacked the guile to break through a well-organised defensive shape, and Stoke left South Wales with three points.
