Sheffield United beat Coventry City 2-0 on Wednesday evening in a match that the home side controlled with increasing authority after a nervy opening exchanges.

Coventry settled first and created enough early discomfort to suggest they might take something from the night, but Sheffield United grew into the contest and gradually imposed themselves through midfield. The second half told the real story.

Harrison Burrows gave the Blades the lead three minutes after the restart, capitalising on good work down the left to convert at close range. Haji Wright added a second shortly after, steering the ball past the Coventry goalkeeper to put the result beyond doubt before the hour mark. From that point, the visitors had little to offer in response.

The final twenty minutes saw both benches heavily active, with ten substitutions across the two sides in the closing stages. Ellis Simms and Tyrese Campbell came on for Sheffield United, while Coventry introduced Tahith Chong and Victor Torp in search of something they never looked likely to find.

Coventry's Tyrese Campbell, introduced late, was unable to manufacture a way back into the match, and Kaine Kesler-Hayden's withdrawal in stoppage time confirmed the game had already been decided long before.

Sheffield United were largely comfortable throughout the second half and deserved their clean sheet. Coventry will need to show considerably more in attack if they are to improve their position in the weeks ahead.
