Sheffield United came from behind to beat Portsmouth 3-1 on Saturday afternoon, a result that reflected their growing authority over the second half despite a difficult opening period.

Portsmouth struck first. John Swift finished well in the 25th minute, and Gustavo Hamer doubled the lead just before half-time to give the home side a comfortable position at the break. Sheffield United had been second best for much of the first period, struggling to impose themselves in midfield and giving their hosts too much space in central areas.

The game turned almost immediately after the restart. Callum O'Hare came on at half-time and changed the visitors' shape, and Djibril Soumaré reduced the deficit three minutes into the second half. Sydie Peck levelled in the 55th minute, and Sheffield United were suddenly the team in control.

Tyrese Campbell completed the turnaround in the 70th minute, finishing a move that had too much quality for Portsmouth to deal with. The home side made changes through Luke Le Roux and Jacob Brown but could not find a response. Oliver Arblaster was withdrawn late on alongside Ki-Jana Hoever, with Andre Brooks introduced as Sheffield United managed the closing stages.

Kalvin Phillips picked up a red card in stoppage time, which will concern the Sheffield United coaching staff ahead of upcoming fixtures, but it did not affect the outcome. Three points secured, and a strong second-half display to build on.
