Preston North End drew 1-1 with Stoke City on Friday evening, a result that felt broadly fair given how the match unfolded across its ninety minutes.

Stoke settled the quicker of the two sides. Sorba Thomas picked up a booking inside four minutes, a sign of the visitors' eagerness to press high and disrupt. Alfie Devine was the most active figure in the opening half, collecting yellow cards at the 15th and 26th-minute marks, the second of which brought an early bath and left Preston to reorganise. Ben Whiteman and Million Manhoef were also cautioned before the interval, suggesting a match with genuine edge beneath the surface.

The second half opened with more disruption. Sam Gallagher and Jesurun Rak-Sakyi came on for Preston and Stoke respectively at the break, and Jun-ho Bae added further attacking intent shortly after the restart. Milutin Osmajic gave Stoke the lead on 57 minutes, and the visitors looked to be building towards three points. A flurry of substitutions followed, with Thierry Small, Divin Mubama and Odeluga Offiah all introduced as Preston pushed for an equaliser.

It arrived on 77 minutes through Brad Potts, levelling at 1-1 with Daniel Jebbison also entering the action in the same moment. Michael Smith came on late for Stoke as they attempted to find a winner that never materialised.

Preston will take more from the point given the numerical disadvantage they carried for the better part of an hour.
