Blackburn Rovers 0 Preston North End 1

Preston claimed a narrow Lancashire derby victory at Ewood Park on Friday evening, Callum Lang's 70th-minute goal separating the sides in a match that grew increasingly fractious as the second half developed.

The first half offered little of note until Hayden Carter was dismissed on 40 minutes, leaving Blackburn to defend with ten men for the bulk of the contest. Preston, to their credit, were patient rather than opportunistic, maintaining shape and waiting for the right moment.

The second half brought a flurry of substitutions from both benches. Jamal Piaras Lewis and Thierry Small came on for Preston around the hour mark, and Yuki Ohashi and Daniel Jebbison entered proceedings for Blackburn moments later. Ohashi showed enough intent to cause problems down the right, though Preston's defensive discipline held firm.

Lang's goal arrived on 70 minutes and proved sufficient. Blackburn pushed forward in the closing stages with Oladapo Afolayan introduced late on, and Ohashi remained a threat, drawing a yellow card in stoppage time alongside Eiran Cashin and Small as tempers frayed.

Preston managed the game competently after taking the lead, pressing when necessary and absorbing Blackburn's late pressure without significant alarm. The dismissal of Carter was the game's defining moment; everything that followed flowed from it.

Three points, a clean sheet, and local bragging rights. A satisfactory evening for the visiting side.
