Brentford beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0 on Monday evening in a match that the home side controlled for long stretches, though their evening was not without its complications.

The Bees moved in front early through Michael Kayode at 22 minutes, and Adam Armstrong added a second two minutes later to put Brentford in a position of real comfort before the half-hour mark had passed. Armstrong struck again at 44 minutes, though that effort appears to have been disallowed or ruled out given the final scoreline remained at two. Igor Thiago and Ladislav Krejci were also involved in the first-half action, suggesting Brentford's attacking intent was consistent throughout.

Wolves introduced Angel Gomes after the break and he provided moments of brightness, registering involvement at 46 and 89 minutes. Tolu Arokodare threatened twice in quick succession around the 74th and 77th minute, pressing Brentford's defence in a period when Wolves looked their most threatening. Kristoffer Ajer was cautioned twice, in the 72nd and 77th minute, and was consequently dismissed, which effectively ended any realistic hope Wolves had of finding a way back.

Reiss Nelson and Rodrigo Gomes came on late for Brentford, and José Sá was called upon at 90 minutes for Wolves to keep the deficit from extending.

Brentford were the better side across the 90 minutes and deserved the three points.
