Chelsea drew 1-1 with Manchester United on Saturday evening in a match that swung sharply in the final ten minutes after United had controlled long stretches of the contest.

United arrived at Stamford Bridge with clear purpose. Alejandro Garnacho opened the scoring in the 16th minute, and although Matheus Cunha equalised for Chelsea nine minutes later, United reclaimed the lead through Jorrel Hato before the half-hour was out. Cunha added a second for the hosts just before half-time, levelling matters again at 2-2. The scoreline, however, does not reflect how comfortably United moved through Chelsea's midfield for much of the first half.

The second period was more contained, with Chelsea pressing for a third goal that never arrived. United defended with reasonable discipline until the 80th minute, when Amad Diallo gave them what appeared to be a decisive lead.

Chelsea responded immediately. Trevoh Chalobah and Josh Acheampong both came on as substitutes at the 81st minute mark, and the home side drew level through Mason Mount shortly after. Joshua Zirkzee and Roméo Lavia entered late, and Mount completed a frantic finish to the evening as Kobbie Mainoo also appeared from the bench.

The final score of 1-1 flatters neither side entirely. Chelsea showed resilience after being outplayed for periods, while United will feel they surrendered a lead they had worked hard to earn.
