Portsmouth beat Oxford United 2-1 in a match that shifted decisively in the second half after a relatively even opening period.

Oxford made the brighter start. Keshi Anderson put the visitors ahead after nine minutes, and for much of the first half they looked the more composed side. Connor Ogilvie was booked on 17 minutes, and Jordan Williams followed him into the referee's book four minutes later, which gave Portsmouth something to work with as Oxford grew cautious.

The second half changed everything. Will Vaulks and Hidde ter Avest were both cautioned within seconds of the restart, and Brodie Gilmore Spencer pulled Portsmouth level two minutes in. The home side found momentum from that point, turning the game around through sustained pressure on the Oxford defence.

Spencer added a second on 59 minutes to put Portsmouth in front, and Will Vaulks was dismissed on 61 minutes, reducing Oxford to ten men at a point when they had no foothold in the match. Andre Dozzell, Marlon Pack, Przemyslaw Placheta, and Mark Harris were all introduced as both managers tried to reshape things, with Millenic Alli and Will Lankshear also coming on late for Portsmouth.

Michal Helik picked up a booking on 78 minutes as Oxford grew frustrated, and Dozzell received a second yellow on 87 minutes to end the contest with nine men.

Portsmouth held on to take all three points.
