Wrexham fell to a heavy home defeat on Friday evening, Ipswich Town leaving with a convincing victory that the scoreline accurately reflected.

Ipswich took control early and never truly surrendered it. Josh Windass opened the scoring on 34 minutes, giving the visitors a deserved lead at the interval. Whatever Wrexham attempted in the first half, Ipswich matched and then exceeded it, pressing with purpose and moving the ball with a directness that the home side could not live with.

Dara O'Shea extended the advantage shortly after the restart, heading Ipswich further clear before Wrexham had any opportunity to reset. At that point, the contest was effectively settled, and the second half became a question of margin rather than outcome.

The final quarter of the match descended into near-farce for Wrexham as substitutions and yellows arrived in rapid succession. Ben Sheaf and Jack Taylor were both cautioned, while Ipswich introduced fresh legs through Jack Clarke and Anis Mehmeti on 73 minutes, with Kieffer Moore and Issa Kaboré following almost immediately. Sindre Walle Egeli and Iván Azón came on for the home side as Phil Parkinson searched for something to show for the evening.

There was nothing. Ipswich managed the closing stages with authority, and Wrexham were left to reflect on a performance that offered no real foothold at any stage of the game.
