Brentford and Brighton shared the points in a 2-2 draw at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday afternoon, a result that flattered neither side while giving both something to consider.

Brighton took control early. Mats Wieffer opened the scoring after twelve minutes, converting with composure after a well-worked move through Brentford's midfield. Diego Gómez added a second on thirty minutes, and at that stage Fabian Hürzeler's side looked entirely comfortable.

Brentford's response before the interval was significant. Danny Welbeck pulled one back for Brighton just before half-time, only for Nathan Collins to level for the hosts in the same minute, a frantic conclusion to a first half that had been relatively controlled until that point. The goals changed the game's character entirely.

Thomas Frank made changes at the break, introducing Yegor Yarmolyuk and Kevin Schade, and Brentford began the second period with more urgency. Brighton made their own adjustments, Ferdi Kadıoğlu coming on just after the hour, though the visitors struggled to reassert the authority they had shown earlier.

Substitutions continued to shape the closing stages. Romelle Donovan entered for Brentford in the 81st minute and offered fresh momentum, while Carlos Baleba's late arrival for Brighton steadied their midfield. Yarmolyuk, who had already contributed since coming on, drew a foul in stoppage time that signalled Brentford's intent to press for a winner that never arrived.
