Wrexham beat Hull City in a breathless contest that finished 2-0, though the scoreline flatters the visitors considerably given how much of the second half they spent under pressure.

Hull dominated the early exchanges. Oliver McBurnie put them ahead in the seventh minute, only for Sam Smith to level almost immediately, his reply coming in the eighth. The game then settled into a period of sustained Hull control, and they made it count before the interval. Joe Gelhardt scored twice in quick succession, in the 40th and 44th minutes, to give the visitors a 3-1 lead at the break.

Wrexham responded with urgency after half-time. Ollie Rathbone pulled one back in the 46th minute, Charlie Hughes had scored on the stroke of half-time to make it 3-2 going in, and Rathbone struck again in the 49th to level at three apiece. The momentum had shifted entirely.

Dominic Hyam put Wrexham ahead for the first time in the 66th minute, and despite Hull pressing for an equaliser through a series of late substitutions, Bailey Cadamarteri extended the lead to 5-3 in the 84th minute. Kyle Joseph scored in the 90th to reduce the deficit, but the game was already settled.

Both managers made wholesale changes throughout the second period, which disrupted Hull's rhythm at precisely the wrong time. Wrexham took full advantage of that disruption and deserved their victory.
