AFC Wimbledon beat Northampton Town 2-0 on Tuesday evening in a match that shifted considerably in its second half after a relatively even opening period.

Northampton had looked the more composed side before the break, with Jack Vale going close in the 38th minute, and Mathew Stevens testing the home defence early in the second period. Those were moments Northampton will reflect on with some regret.

AFC Wimbledon took the lead through Isaac Ogundere just after the hour mark and never relinquished it. The game then entered a frenetic spell around the 62nd minute, with Dean Campbell, Tom Eaves and Kamarai Swyer all involved in quick succession, the changes suggesting both benches were attempting to reshape the contest. Osman Foyo and James Tilley followed shortly after.

Eaves, clearly influential, was back in proceedings at 73 minutes, with Kyle McAdam and Omar Bugiel adding further movement through the closing stages. Sam Hoskins came on for Northampton at the 80th minute but could not alter the outcome.

Ben Hammond and Tom Eaves both featured again in stoppage time, with Hammond adding the second goal in the 90th minute to confirm the result.

AFC Wimbledon managed the game intelligently once ahead, limiting Northampton's ability to build pressure in the final third. Northampton, for all their first-half industry, lacked the incision to convert their better spells into anything meaningful on the scoresheet.
