Barnsley defeated AFC Wimbledon 3-2 in a match that swung repeatedly before the home side held firm at Oakwell on Saturday afternoon.

Wimbledon made the brighter start. David McGoldrick put the visitors ahead in the tenth minute, and Tom Bradshaw doubled their lead four minutes later. The opening quarter of an hour belonged entirely to the away side, who pressed high and moved the ball with purpose.

Barnsley's response was swift and decisive. Omar Bugiel pulled one back in the 25th minute, then levelled matters just two minutes later with his second of the afternoon. Corey O'Keeffe completed the turnaround in the 31st minute, turning a two-goal deficit into a lead that Barnsley carried into the break.

The second half brought further drama. A. Phillips and J. Bland both received yellow cards in the 59th minute as tensions rose, and Bland earned a second booking three minutes later, reducing Wimbledon to ten men. That dismissal effectively settled the contest.

Marcus Browne threatened briefly for Wimbledon in the 74th minute, and Nathan Asiimwe added a third for Barnsley two minutes later. Eoghan O'Connell was shown a red card in the 77th minute, compounding Wimbledon's difficulties. Antwoine Hackford and Scott Banks were both cautioned deep into stoppage time, though Zack Nelson's booking shortly before reflected a fractious close to proceedings.

Barnsley's recovery from two goals down was the story of the afternoon.
