Bristol City beat Watford 2-0 on Friday evening in a contest that the home side managed with increasing authority after a scrappy opening hour.

The first half offered little clarity. Luca Kjerrumgaard was booked inside seven minutes as Watford attempted to press high, while Neto Borges collected a yellow card shortly before the half-hour. Scott Twine then saw his name taken at 36 minutes, and the early exchanges produced more friction than football of note.

The game shifted decisively around the hour mark. Max Bird was dismissed in the 61st minute, reducing Watford to ten men and handing Bristol City the numerical and psychological advantage they needed. Sinclair Armstrong scored immediately after, turning the tie in the home side's favour.

Watford's evening worsened further. Stephen Mfuni came off in a triple substitution at 58 minutes alongside Jeremy Ngakia and one further change, suggesting the visitors were already struggling to hold shape. Tom Ince and Mattie Pollock both collected bookings on 69 minutes as Watford's discipline fractured.

Delano Burgzorg's goal in the 84th minute sealed the result and confirmed what the last half-hour had made plain. Bristol City were the more composed side once they had space to work in, and Watford offered little to threaten that.

The winning margin was fair. The hosts controlled the closing stages without drama and collected three points that the second half thoroughly justified.
