Chesterfield beat Shrewsbury Town 3-1 on Saturday afternoon in a second half that swung decisively in the hosts' favour after a relatively measured opening period.

Tom Naylor broke the deadlock on 31 minutes, giving Chesterfield a lead they carried into the interval. Trey Samuel-Ogunsuyi was introduced before the break and made an immediate impression, appearing on the scoresheet at 45 minutes to double the advantage before half-time.

Shrewsbury made changes at the interval, and Armando Dobra pulled one back almost immediately after the restart on 46 minutes, giving the visitors a foothold and some cause for optimism. That momentum, however, did not last.

Taylor Perry restored the two-goal cushion on 55 minutes, and Chesterfield controlled the remainder of the match from there. Anthony Scully added a fourth on 65 minutes before a flurry of substitutions reshaped both sides in the final quarter.

George Lloyd came off the bench and made his presence felt, contributing on 76 minutes, while Dobra struck again in injury time to close the scoring at 3-1, though the result was never in serious doubt by that stage.

Chesterfield were the more organised and direct side throughout, pressing effectively in midfield and making their numerical changes count. Shrewsbury showed brief signs of life after the interval but lacked the consistency to sustain pressure. A comfortable home win, and a performance that will encourage confidence for what lies ahead.
