Oxford United drew 1-1 with Hull City on Friday afternoon, a result that felt fair given how the contest ebbed and flowed across ninety minutes.

Hull made the stronger early impression. Mohamed Belloumi forced Oxford into defensive work within four minutes, and the visitors looked the more composed side in the opening quarter. Oxford responded through Charlie Hughes and Cameron Brannagan in quick succession around the twelve-minute mark, though neither produced a goal, and Hull held their shape.

The second half changed the picture. John Egan's contribution at the restart gave Hull fresh confidence, and Brodie Gilmore Spencer also came on at the break. Lewis Koumas and Kieran Dowell both featured prominently around the hour mark, with Dowell's involvement in the 64th minute helping Oxford begin to assert themselves in the middle of the pitch.

The goals arrived late. Mark Harris levelled for Oxford in the 76th minute, almost immediately answered by Jin-woo Jeon, though the precise sequence left the scoreline at 1-1. Will Vaulks entered the picture a minute later, and Toby Collyer and Liam Millar both came on in the 83rd minute as both managers pushed for a winner.

Nik Prelec had the final meaningful touch of the match in stoppage time, but could not separate the sides.

Oxford will feel they grew into the game. Hull, for their part, will leave with a point that looked comfortable enough when the second half began.
