Port Vale drew 1-1 with Reading on Saturday afternoon in a match that shifted dramatically during a frantic second half, with both goals and most of the significant action compressed into the final thirty minutes.

Reading took the lead through Lewis Wing in the 39th minute, a goal that gave them a measure of control they largely maintained into the break. Vale struggled to find a way through and the visitors looked comfortable enough defending what they had.

The second half brought a series of substitutions that changed the complexion of the game. Jayden Stockley came on in the 61st minute, and within seconds Martin Sherif had equalised for Vale, with Jordan Lawrence-Gabriel and Liam Gordon also introduced around the same time as Vale pushed numbers forward. The substitutions unsettled Reading's structure and Vale began to press with greater intent.

Reading responded with their own changes. Jeriel Dorsett entered at 67 minutes and Paddy Lane at 73, alongside Randell Williams, as both sides made late attempts to find a winner. Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan came on for Vale in the 85th minute, shortly before Finley Burns appeared for Reading.

Martin Sherif went close to a late winner before Ben Heneghan received attention in the closing seconds, though the match ended level.

Vale will feel they recovered well from going behind. Reading, having led for much of the afternoon, will consider this two points dropped.
