Manchester United won 5-1 at Sunderland on Saturday afternoon, a scoreline that reflected the visitors' dominance across much of the second half.

The game was goalless at the interval, with Sunderland offering enough organisation in the first period to keep United at arm's length. That structure dissolved quickly after the break.

Mason Mount opened the account on 54 minutes, and United moved with purpose from that point. Joshua Zirkzee added a second just four minutes later, and Patrick Dorgu extended the lead on 65 minutes. Sunderland had no obvious answer to the pace and movement United brought through the middle and wide areas. The home side's shape, reasonably solid for an hour, simply came apart under sustained pressure.

Bryan Mbeumo made it four on 75 minutes before Nilson Angulo added a fifth four minutes later. By that stage, the match was settled as a contest.

Sunderland's only moment of consolation arrived in stoppage time through Eliezer Mayenda, whose goal earned the home crowd a brief response from their team. United substitute Matheus Cunha scored almost immediately to restore the five-goal margin and close out the scoring at 5-1.

United controlled the second half with a directness that Sunderland could not match. Five different scorers in a single afternoon speaks to the depth of options Ruben Amorim was able to call upon, and the manner of the win will provide confidence heading into the final weeks of the campaign.
