What this measures
Total board pay = "key management personnel compensation" line in the accounts notes. Covers all executive directors (chief exec, finance director, ops director, etc) plus the football director / sporting director where they sit on the board.
Highest paid director is the single highest individual figure disclosed. Usually the chief executive or, where the manager is on the board (rare), could be the head coach.
Manager and player salaries are NOT in this figure — those sit in the much larger wage bill line. The "% of wages" column tells you how much of the wage bill goes to the boardroom versus the playing squad.
